Girlyrap – yes, I am coining that…

Female artists rapping over beats and electronic elements, electro, electropop, and so on. Rapping usually about fairly self-centered things, and things like fashion, and topics that are not of specific importance, oh, and raunchy lyrics too (good!).

Uffie
Uffie

I am not researching it, yet, but I think Uffie played a key role with her song “Pop the Glock” originally being released back in 2006 (Pop the Glock/Ready to Uff on Ed Banger Records) and then eventually being released on her debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans in June of 2010. I reviewed it back in October of 2010.

The genres Wikipedia lists for her Uffie’s debut EP: Indie dance, Acid house, Synthpop, Underground hip hop and Nu skool. Allmusic calls her electronic and pop/rock. For styles they say alternative dance, alternative/indie rock, club/dance, indie electronic and electronica.

The first verse of “Pop the Glock” followed by the video:

MC am I people call me Uff
When I rock the party you bust a nut
Feadz is breaking out the beat
Shit be hotter than me
Me and he our crew’s a militia
Better watch out my clan gets vicious
Bad ass bitch I’m rated-X
I’m gifted ain’t gotta sell sex

“Ready to Uff”:

Now I know of a few more artists, most notable being Kreayshawn. Although not the best music out there, I have to say it is a guilty pleasure for sure. I will explore further in future posts. In the meantime Kreayshawn’s breakthrough track “Gucci Gucci”:

One big room full of bad bitches

And we stunting like Gucci Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada
Basic bitches wear that shit so I don’t even bother
Gucci Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada
Them basic bitches wear that shit so I don’t even bother

…And the rest of the lyrics.

Girlyrap it is…!
